Nicole Lavelle is a student in Portland State University’s Graphic Design program. This is her last year. Find her work at www.makingstuffanddoingthings.com

The first part of this blog traces her process in Art470.

Art 470, Contemporary Design Projects, is a studio class taught by Lis Charman andstructured to encourage independent study and the exploration of design research and theory.

The first project is a “Social Practice Project,” taking from the format of socially engaged art practice spearheaded by Harrell Fletcher and PSU’s MFA students in Social Practice. The second project is an independent study term-long project.

Then things pick up in Winter Term with Design Thinking 399 with Matt Livengood. Some things from 471 Design Seminar come into play here.

This blog contains Nicole’s thoughts, readings, inspiration and process.
